Furniture and DIY Retail: Advertising Customers Keep After the Purchase

Furniture, home-improvement and garden retail all share an overlooked moment. A customer leaves with a product that must be assembled, installed, maintained or used at home. The store usually gives a receipt, packaging insert or short-lived leaflet. What if the brand's physical advertising could be useful at precisely that moment—and remain visible afterwards?

The commercial problem: a message that disappears

A conventional flyer is inexpensive to distribute, but once its information has been read it rarely has a practical role. Customers may discard it before completing a project. We should not assume that every leaflet goes into the bin, but retailers can test whether a useful physical medium is more likely to be retained. The business objective is not to sell another plastic accessory. It is to keep the store's advertising contact available after the transaction.

HOLDERCARD: useful advertising, not a shelf product

HOLDERCARD is a printed, card-sized PVC advertising medium that folds into a smartphone stand. A retailer orders the branded campaign material for its own customer communication, then gives it to selected shoppers free of charge. The stand is the utility mechanism that can make the advertisement worth keeping. It is not proposed as a third-party item added to the retailer's merchandise assortment.

A real use case: assembly instructions on the phone

Consider a customer unpacking flat-pack furniture at home. The official installation video or digital assembly guidance is on the phone, which otherwise has to lean against a box or slide across a table. With HOLDERCARD, the phone has a compact resting place. The brand remains printed on the support. The mandatory assembly instructions, product warnings and safety labels are never replaced by a QR code or a marketing handout.

From furniture to DIY and garden centres

The same campaign logic has different destinations by department. In furniture, a QR may open approved assembly instructions, spare-parts information and furniture-care advice. In DIY or hardware retail, it may link to official product setup, safe-use documentation, project guidance and compatible consumables. In garden and home retail, it may direct customers to plant-care information, seasonal maintenance advice or the store's existing loyalty services. Each link must point to information the retailer actually operates and approves.

One printed QR can lead to updated content

A QR on the printed HOLDERCARD can open a stable page controlled by the retailer. The page's content can change while the QR remains the same: first assembly support, then after-sales service, and later appropriate new offers. The card does not update itself; the retailer must maintain the permanent URL, web page and redirects. A service-first page is often more credible than a landing page containing only promotions.

Distribution at a meaningful moment

The store might offer the branded card at checkout with a selected category, add it to an eligible delivery or assembly-service pack, or use it as a loyalty reward during a product demonstration. A home-improvement chain might run different approved designs for kitchen installation, garden maintenance and hand-tool setup. These are options to test, not statements about existing programmes at IKEA, Leroy Merlin or any other retailer.

How to measure a pilot without invented numbers

A sensible first trial could distribute 500–1,000 pieces across selected locations, with inventory counts and campaign-specific QR destinations. Compare with the normal printed handout or a similar group not receiving the card. Record QR visits and ask a sample of customers whether they kept and used the card after several weeks. QR scans alone do not prove retention, sales impact or waste reduction. Privacy rules and consent requirements must be respected.

What a retailer actually purchases

The B2B buyer commissions a branded physical advertising campaign: printed media, approved creative artwork, agreed quantities and delivery terms. Prices depend on country, print specification, order volume, taxes and logistics. Ukrainian corporate price references in the downloadable presentation are not automatic quotations for Portugal, Spain or other countries. A small genuine sample and a clear campaign objective are better first steps than unsupported claims of conversion or sustainability.
